Twin N

TwinN is a milestone in bio-fertilizers

What is it?

TwinN is a reliable, cost effective selection of high yielding nitrogen fixing microbes for use as a soil improver in all crops, leguminous and non-leguminous. TwinN operates by converting atmospheric nitrogen into a plant available form. In effect, TwinN microbes function like millions of tiny nitrogen fertiliser factories to provide nitrogen in a readily available form directly to the plant tissues and root zone.

TwinN is a freeze-dried biological alternative to traditional nitrogenous fertilizers. Stringent quality control over production ensures that each vial provides consistently high numbers of viable TwinN microbes. Every batch is tested under standardized Quality Control procedures for purity and correct concentration. The freeze-drying process results in an extremely concentrated product with a long shelf life. This is a key difference from most biofertilizer products and ensures that each vial of TwinN delivers consistently very high numbers of functional microbes to your crop. The freeze-drying process also enables the product to be transported and applied very cost-effectively.

TwinN is designed for use in combination with conventional cropping practices where it enables large reductions in the need for chemical nitrogen fertilizers. It is also used in fully organic cropping systems where it has proven to be an effective source of nitrogen.

How does it work?

TwinN provides a combination of selected microbial species (Diazotrophs) that act synergistically to increase crop yield by supplying nitrogen and plant growth factors (PGFs). The freeze-dried microbes are revived in the rehydration solution supplied and then mixed into a larger volume of water for application to the crop by spraying onto the foliage, or application to the roots by irrigation. Because TwinN is a very concentrated preparation, each application provides huge numbers of beneficial microbes.

TwinN microbes locate to two main sites of action after application to the crop. A proportion live (as ‘endophytes’) within the plant leaves, stem and roots where they multiply and supply nitrogen and other growth factors to the plant. A second population becomes established in the ‘rhizosphere’, the zone very close to the surface of the roots and root hairs. These also supply nitrogen and plant growth factors. The dual sites of action, as endophytes and in the root zone, enable a high nitrogen fixing capacity – hence ‘TwinN’.

In addition to providing nitrogen, the plant growth factors drive improved root growth so TwinN treated plants capture any additional applied nitrogen much more effectively. This reduces the losses of nitrogen fertiliser which is poorly held by soil particles and assists in enabling maintenance of high yields with reduced nitrogen fertiliser application. The microbes also act to increase the availability of other soil nutrients such as phosphorous that are often present but not available for use by the crop.
