Environmental Sustainability

Decreased carbon footprint. TwinN is a simple way to slash the carbon footprint of your production system. The use of nitrogenous fertilisers contributes to a very significant proportion of the carbon footprint of cropping/grazing systems. This is partly due to the high energy and natural gas raw material required for manufacturing products like urea. In addition, the volatilization of nitrogenous fertilizers releases nitrous oxide (N20), a potent ‘greenhouse’ gas.

Carbon budgets and greenhouse emissions have become an important issue for primary producers and substitution of nitrogen fertiliser with TwinN, even partially, results in a large decrease in the carbon footprint of the crop production system. This will help producers of crops where carbon footprint budgets are becoming regulated, as well as producers who just prefer to produce yields sustainably.

Decreased runoff and leaching problems. Nitrogen fertilizers are poorly bound to soils and leaching of nitrogenous compounds into aquifers, waterways, lakes and oceans is a serious problem. TwinN steadily supplies nitrogen, either directly into the plant tissues via endophytes, or into the root zone very immediate to the roots where it can be captured efficiently. Leaching is minimized.

Improved soil quality. Replacing nitrogen fertilisers with TwinN results in an enriched soil microbe population, better nutrient availability and will rebuild your general soil health and associated crop vigour.
